Coupler/Isolator Failures:
The coupler/isolator connects the snout drive to the rotors inside and is usually of a sprung type. On the TVS series superchargers we are seeing alot of failures mainly caused by wear to the snout shaft as seen in our images. When these fail in most cases a rattle from the supercharger is heard, in total failure you will lose power and drive to the supercharger. If you suspect an issue you can confirm by disconnecting the supercharger belt. Try to rotate the supercharger sharply by hand, there should be a damped movement before it fully engages. On a new coupler this twist is approx 3mm of movement at the fingertips. If it feels quite soft with larger movement then it has probably started to wear itself and the shaft. On excesively worn couplers, replacing with a new sprung type will regain some more positive drive and potentially stop any associated noises. However if the shaft is worn then it may not completely solve the problem. If you have excessive wear you may need to purchase a new shaft to which you will get approx. the same mileage before repeat failure but a smooth supercharger engagement.
