Brief History:

India issued 25 "Naye Paise"-Nickel coins from year 1957 to 1963 and issued "25 Paise"-Nickel coins from year 1964 to 1968. There was no issue of 25 Paise coins for years 1969, 1970 and 1971. From year 1972 till year 1990, 25 Paise coins-Copper-Nickel were issued. From 1988 till 2002, India minted Stainless Steel 25 Paise coins .

India’s Monetary system until 1957 was 4 Pice = 1 Anna, 4 Annas = ¼(Quarter) Rupee, 8 Annas = ½(Half) Rupee, and 16 Annas = 1 Rupee. After 1957, it changed to Decimal Coinage and initially issued "Naye Paise" in various denominations as all other countries throughout the world issued before changing to Decimal coinage. And then finally from 1964 changed to "Paise".

India issued "Naye Paise" and "Paise" coins in denominations of: 1, 2, 3, 5, 10, 20, 25, and 50 paise.

India minted its coins in Bombay, Calcutta, Hyderabad and Noida Mints. India also got coins minted from countries like Ottawa Canada), Brimingham(UK), Kremnica(Slovakia), London(UK),Mexico, Pretoria, Taegu(Korea) etc.

Every mint has a distinct ‘mint mark’ on each coin.

Most of the coins offered here are from Bombay(Small dot/diamond under the year)), Calcutta(No mint mark), Hyderabad(Star under the year), Noida(Big dot, deeply embossed) and Ottawa( C under the year).

If you have TWO coins of one year, you have invariably from TWO different mints. Please give a close look to the coins and you will love to view them again and again.

*THERE IS NO ISSUE OF '25 PAISE' COINS AFTER 2002. IT IS NO MORE A LEGAL TENDER IN INDIA SINCE 2011.
