This original antique lithograph was made by Karl Joseph Brodtmann, the renowned Swiss naturalist and lithographer. Brodtmann's lithographs are detailed, accurately drawn and beautifully composed. This lithograph was printed with high quality, thick, matt paper with a subtle creamy tone and slight texture. It has hand painted colors.
Karl Brodtmann (1787 - 1862). Brodtmann was an accomplished Swiss artist, print-maker, publisher and bookseller. He made excellent lithographs of mammals, birds, fish and people. Brodtmann was brilliant at portraying animals with beauty, liveliness and scientific accuracy. They are amongst the finest antique prints of animals ever made.

| The Nature of Prints & Engravings: It was not until the 20th century that prints were commonly produced for the print itself. Prior to this, virtually all prints (and engravings) were produced as illustrations to be included in a manuscript, book, newspaper, or pamphlet.
