Brief History: "2 ANNAS"

India’s Monetary system until  1957 was  2 Pice= 1/2 Anna, 4 Pice = 1 Anna, , 4 Annas = ¼(Quarter) Rupee, 8 Annas = ½(Half) Rupee, and 16 Annas = 1 Rupee. India after Freedom from British Rule in 1947, continued with British India coins till 1949. In 1950, Government  Of  India FIRST introduced its own currency, briefly from 1950 till 1956. India continued with British monetary system viz. Pice, Anna, 1/4, 1/2 & 1 Rupee till 1956.   From 1957, India changed to Decimal Coinage and initially issued "Naye Paise" in various denominations as all other countries throughout the world issued before changing to Decimal coinage. And then finally from 1964 changed to "Paise".
