This is an original printed pasteup photostat page to Challengers of the Unknown #76, published in October-November of 1970 by D.C. Comics. This is Pg. 9 from the story, which was taken from the early COTU issues. Although this is a photostat page and not the original art, it was also used in the actual production of the comic, and like the original artwork is one-of-a-kind. These pages were made in order to produce the comic, and were never intended to be collectibles. Most of these pages were destroyed after the comic went to press, so to find a page as old as this one (and with "King" Kirby art no less!) is fairly rare. The page measures approximately 11" x 15 3/4", and is now more than 50 years old! It has the official approval stamp on the back, dated May 15, 1970. There are 3 separate tiers that have been taped to the art board, and there is some blue marker circles added. It is a fantastic page with great imagery by the King. This is a very cool and rare piece of comic production art that you will hardly ever get a chance to see.

The page features awesome images by one of the greatest legends in the history of comics, Jack "King" Kirby, who is best-known for his work at Marvel Comics in the 1960's, where together with Stan Lee he co-created the Fantastic Four, the X-Men, the Mighty Thor, the Incredible Hulk, the Silver Surfer, and many more classic characters and teams. He is also of course the original co-creator (along with Joe Simon) of Captain America back in the 1940's at the start of the Golden Age of comics. Kirby had a great run in the 1970's doing Superman when he came over to DC, and this was the month when it started. I believe in this issue Murray Boltinoff discusses the reprinted stories and announced Kirby's DC return and that his first work was appearing the same month in Jimmy Olsen. This is a fantastic piece for any Kirby fan, and would look fantastic framed and prominently displayed.
