This listing is for a fully functional, 1950's BATTERY OPERATED SMOKEY BEAR w/box as shown. This toy is in excellent - near mint condition. Fur, litho, tin and clothing are nice & clean. No fading of colors anywhere. No missing or damaged parts. The correct 4 actions are as follow: (1) Smoky the Bear walks forward, (2) Right hand raises pipe to mouth, (3) Pipe light up red as if he is drawing in smoke, (4) He lowers his pipe and exhales smoke. ( great smoker! ) This toy has been tested and works smoothly. Remote battery compartment is spotless with absolutely no corrosion. Wiring is undamaged. This is a "MADE IN JAPAN" toy listed in Don Hultzman's book, COLLECTOR'S GUIDE TO BATTERY TOYS, copyright 2002, second edition. It is listed on page 164. It is a 1950's era toy made by the Marusan ( SAN ) Co. It has a rarity of 6 on a scale to 10 being the rarest, and a value of $500.00 in C-10 condition without the box. The original box is in very good condition. It does have a number of clear tape repairs including on the face of the box. The box display well with a colorful depiction of a camping scene of the famous Smokey the Bear teaching children to be careful with camp fires. Too cute. This is an exceptionally clean, working example of this charming toy. I have many other 1950's & 1960's, mint condition & mint in box, battery operated & mechanical wind-up toys listed. Take a look, you may find an old memory from the past.
