It is unusual and impressive 19th Century antique blue and gray salt glaze 

stoneware ewer/vase elaborately decorated and made by Simon Peter Gerz I in Germany, c. 1880-1900.

some of my customers call it wine pitcher!

These attractive stoneware ewers are flat sided and are decorated with multiple elaborate designs including a large medallion on each side featuring crests and shields. 

The entire body is decorated with cobalt blue over gray with the rounded side edges having an engraved pattern.

This vase are in excellent condition with no noted flaws or damage.

Marked with the early Gerz incised stamp only (marked Germany) with number 576 below. Simon Peter Gerz I founded his pottery factory in 1857. Although he died in 1893, the company has continued in business and remains in business today predominately known as a beer stein maker.

Measures 16" high, 10" at widest (center of body).
