Most of the glass on this old window c1900 is in its
original state, however this transom underwent a full restoration in order to
bring it back to its original glory. Joints
were resoldered, it was recemented and three broken beveled pieces were
replaced. It was salvaged from a Chicago residence c1900
and is comprised mainly of beveled glass with the exception of the border
pieces which are flat glass and some of the scrolled pieces on the center
pattern that are a white ripple glass. The beveled pieces all have a 3/8” bevel. Overall measurement is 60"w x 18" h x 1 3/4" thick. There are two rebars on the interior side of
the window that serve as reinforcements.
They are unique in that they follow the pattern of the window so they virtually
disappear. The frame is original – all lead-based paint has been
removed and it underwent major repairs.
It was then painted a rich graphite color and then waxed to a satiny
sheen. This piece deserves a special
space in your home. It’s a versatile
piece and can be hung or installed either horizontally or vertically and could
be used as a sidelight next to an entry door.
