Presenting a very collectable vintage wooden Maori Tiki KORURU bottle top opener by SOVEREIGN N.Z.

The handle is in block form and features a Koruru with its tongue sticking out. The carving is in low relief and is delicate, detailed and beautifully carved!!! The timber displays warm honey amber tones. The cap opener is coated aluminium and has the SOVEREIGN stamp on its front.

To the rear of the KORURU handle is the original SOVEREIGN gold foil which reads:

KORURU
Carved human face with protruding tongue and paua shell eyes. Used by Maoris to decorate their valued wooden possessions. SOVEREIGN N.Z.

SOVEREIGN WOODWORKERS LTD operated in Whanganui between 1949 and 1992. Sovereign produced some of the few quality New Zealand made souvenirs available at the time. The gold foil sticker dates this KORURU bottle opener to having been carved by them between the years of 1960 and 1969.

This beautiful carved Maori Koruru bottle cap opener measures 8.7cm in height, 3.5cm in width and 2cm in depth.

Presented in good, used vintage condition. There are a few scratches as per the pictures. The front display side (carved face) and sides of the KORURU are excellent condition. The original foil sticker is worn but still very readable.

This vintage Maori KORURU bottle opener displays beautifully and will make a wonderful and functional addition to any home bar, man cave or Maori collection!!!
