A rare, large, one-of-a-kind antique French Victorian brass jewelry casket with curved glass & beveled glass panels...
Exceptionally beautiful and richly detailed, this large antique French Victorian jewelry casket is visually quite impressive!
It features 6 glass panels, including 1 large beveled glass on top and 3 large curved (bowed) glass panels along the front which are anchored securely via decorative prong-set little teeth. The top also has decorative rope trim all around.
The curved glass panels are flanked by a pair of ornate, dimensional brass floral swag motifs along the top and 3 large brass floral garland motifs with bow and torches (which signify liberty) along the bottom. The curved glass alone adds significant value to this casket as the manufacturing of curved glass was labor-intensive, requiring experience and expertise...
The inside is lined with plump, high-dome, rich burgundy red crushed velvet anchored via decorative floral pins, and this casket sits elevated on 5 sturdy, ornate little feet as shown in the photos. The bottom is fashioned of pewter-tone metal, and it is finished off with an embossed, scrolled little handle which opens & closes the casket smoothly. This large casket has a beautiful, warm, rich patina achieved naturally over time, and for demonstration purposes, it is displayed housing collectible wax flowers to give you an idea of how your treasured keepsakes might look showcased in this trinket box...
Generously proportioned, measures overall ~8 inches wide (side-to-side), ~6&1/6" deep (front-to-back), ~5&3/4" tall, and is finished all around.
In overall very good condition considering age with age-expected dustiness, soilage, very fine superficial scratches, patination/oxidative changes, and age-expected spots along the metal and lining. The crushed velvet along the inside of the casket is faded along some aspects, and a few of the brass floral pins have darkened over time. Please enlarge photos for details.
