Product Description:
The commemorative medal is dedicated to the stability, endurance and heroism of citizens and honoring the memory of the dead. After the Russian invasion on February 24, 2022, Irpin, Gostomel, Bucha and other settlements in the suburbs of Kyiv became a zone of intense fighting. Columns of armored vehicles and airborne troops of the Russian army, with the aim of encircling Kyiv, captured populated areas of the capital region, where they caused significant destruction of housing and infrastructure and committed mass war crimes against the civilian population: looting, physical violence, kidnapping and killing of people, including children. On April 2, 2022, thanks to the joint actions, professionalism, heroism of all components of the defense forces and the help of the local population, Kyiv Region was liberated from the Russian invaders. After the liberation, the terrible truth about the horrific mass killings of the civilian population and the atrocities of the occupiers was revealed, which shocked the civilized world so much that an investigation into war crimes and crimes against humanity related to Russia's aggressive war against Ukraine was initiated.
The obverse of the medal features: at the top: the small State Coat of Arms of Ukraine, to the right of which are the inscriptions: 2022/UKRAINE; in the center on a mirror background - a stylized composition formed from maps of the cities of Kyiv region: Gostomel, Buchi, Irpen, which in combination resemble the shape of a heart; at the top right of the composition - an enemy paratrooper with a shot parachute; at the top of the composition - the legendary plane "Mriya"; in the center – a mirror tear; at the bottom left is a stylized flower as a symbol of rebirth of life. To the left of the central composition are stylized windows of houses, to the right are flying balls; below the inscription: KYIV/CITIES OF HEROES and the logo of the Banknote and Mint of the National Bank of Ukraine. The composition of the obverse is complemented by images symbolizing wounds as evidence of the physical and moral suffering inflicted on Ukrainians by the occupiers: a mirror wound (on the left above the windows), a “sewn” wound (on the right above the bullets), a wound “sewn” with an element of national embroidery (on the left under the windows); at the bottom right is an element of national embroidery, symbolizing the healing of wounds and restoration.
On the reverse of the medal, on a mirror background, a girl is depicted on a swing, whose hair ribbon breaks during the "flight", symbolizing an interrupted life; on the bottom right - prints of the dirty boots of the enemy who invaded the peaceful life of Ukrainians; on the left - a bird as a symbol of the continuation of life (near the girl); a stylized city (above); forest; shot "river of life" (below).
