THIS KIT FITS THE FOLLOWING VEHICLES:
1988-1996 Chevrolet Corvette (all models)
KIT INCLUDES:
1- New OEM quality nylon plastic gear.
3- Precision machined lifetime warranty Delrin torque pins.
1- Grease packet with the correct amount of the same grease originally used by GM (snip the corner for easy application).
1- New laser cut side cover gasket.
1- Hard Copy of detailed instructions.
1- Actuator/Linkage rebuild kit which includes the following.
1- Large headlight pivot shaft bushing (A in the photo).
1- Small actuator pivot shaft bushing (B in the photo).
2- Linkage arm bushings (C in the photo).
2- Stainless steel clips to replace the original snap ring clips that are a PITA.
1- Stainless steel spring clip.
SYMTOMS OF GEAR AND BUSHING FAILURE:
1. The headlight motor runs for several seconds but does not open the headlight.
2. The headlight only opens partially or droops after it has opened.
3. The headlight opens and closes but the motor continues to run with a loud clunking noise (You are running on borrowed time).
Most headlight motors fail because of the soft plastic bushings that GM put in these motors. The electrical part of the motor typically does not fail. I have also seen a lot of gear failures (cracks) with the cheap aftermarket gears sold by others.
This is the premium quality kit that you want to rebuild your headlight motors to OE specifications or better. This kit contains all of the parts and lubricants needed to do the job right the first time. This nylon plastic gear will not crack or break like other low-quality plastic replacement gears and will not bind up your motor like the low quality and ridiculously heavy brass gears. This is the only kit on the market anywhere that includes the bushings for the actuator linkages and headlight pivot shaft. When worn, these bushings often cause misalignment of the headlight cover to the hood and causes the headlights to vibrate or bounce slightly when driving.
The three replacement torque pins are made of virtually indestructible Delrin that will NEVER distort and crumble into plastic bits like the originals or the cheap injection molded, and low-grade plastic bushings sold by others. This is not just a sales pitch; I have actually rebuilt hundreds of these motors since 2010 using this rebuild kit with ZERO failures due to the gear or Delrin bushings. SHAMELESS RANT: This cost saving repair kit was designed and engineered by an American small business entrepreneur and was so successful that big Chinese business took notice and decided to copy it. These businesses are now shipping from the USA but are actually just funneling cheap, low quality auto parts direct from China. If you read their descriptions, you will quickly discover they have very little understanding of what they are selling, and their feedback has many complaints about low quality, poor customer service, and slow shipping. They cannot answer questions because they have no actual knowledge of the product and no idea how to rebuild a headlight motor. This means no instructions, and no idea of the quality standards required when manufacturing these kits. Through my rebuild service, I have received motors from customers who installed these Chinese gears (brass & aluminum) and had issues. I had to toss them in the trash due to improper machining which causes excessive noise and binding issues causing the motor and headlight to get stuck in the open and closed positions. Now that's going to be annoying when you have to open the hood to raise or lower the headlights!! Please be aware: Several customers have had issues because they watched DIY YouTube videos with people likely doing this job for the first time and pretending to be experts. Every one of these DIY videos I have watched has misinformation that can cause issues. From a guy using an impact driver to tighten the tiny little bolts on the gear case that often seize and break (C4 motors), to a guy who puts the thrust washers on the outside of the case to another guy who puts the snap in T-brace bearing inside the gear case with the gear (C5 kit)! What a disaster!! These videos may be helpful to give an overall sense of how to do the job, but you will save yourself some headaches if you purchase this kit and follow the detailed instructions that are included.
