The Bahtinov mask consists of three separate grids strategically positioned to create three angled diffraction spikes at the focal plane, aligning with each bright image element. As you adjust the focus of your guidescopes or finderscopes, the central spike moves across the star from one side to the other, enabling precise focusing.
