Helpful tips about water hardness and testing
Water hardness is the level of calcium and magnesium in your water. Hard water causes spots on dishware, shower doors, cars, etc. It builds up inside water heaters and causes early malfunctions and leaks. It also damages coffee makers and other water-using appliances. A water softener will remove hardness if it is working properly. The only way to know if your softener is working or dialed in, is with hardness test strips.
Simply dip the strip in the water and compare to the chart.
If the strip does not change color, the water is soft.
The closest color match is your hardness level.
If water hardness is showing up before the next salt regeneration, you need to make an adjustment on the softener. I include a simple guide that explains how to do it.
Have a reverse osmosis water filter? The water should have a zero hardness when using the strips.
The strips will have a shelf life of 24 months.
