Gustave Adolphe Chassevent was the son of Louis Guillaume Germain Chassevent and Virginie Euphrasine Bacque. A pupil of Léon Cogniet at the Beaux-Arts in Paris, he made his debut at the Salon in 1845. He married Honorine Marie Louise Marie. Their son Louis Chassevent will also be a painter.
