Theodor Alexander Weber on May 11, 1838 in Leipzig and died in March 1907 in Paris, is a German naturalized German painter in 1878. He became a pupil of Wilhelm Krause in Berlin in 1854. He went to Paris in 1856 to pursue his studies with Eugene Isabey. He participated in 1858 at the Salon: in 1868, his canvas Le Sauvetage at the entrance of the Tréport is noted for its qualities. The same year, he participated in the international maritime exhibition of Le Havre and received a bronze medal. In 1870 and 1871, during the Franco-German war, he went into exile in London and Brussels. He returned to live in Paris and in 1878 he became a French citizen. In January 1886, he was officially appointed Navy painter and exhibited at Goupil & Cie more than forty paintings in October. In 1889, he illustrated 53 compositions The South Pole, an album by Wilfried de Fonvielle (Hachette). In 1891-1892 he exhibited in Munich. After his death at the beginning of March 1907 at 71 boulevard de Clichy, his studio was scattered at auction in May in Paris, 208 paintings, watercolors and drawings
N.B.: This lithogravure from around 1860 was the subject, on our part, of a special treatment in order to make disappear the outrages of time and, in particular, the numerous foxings which smeared it. After this treatment, we pasted it on a watermarked paper. This treatment had the effect of "rejuvenating" it; however, it is an authentic lithogravure from the second half of the 19th century.

Theodor Alexander Weber le 11 mai 1838 à Leipzig et mort en 1907 à Paris, est un artiste peintre allemand naturalisé français en 1878. Il devient l'élève de Wilhelm Krause à Berlin en 1854. Il se rend à Paris en 1856 pour poursuivre ses études auprès d'Eugène Isabey. Il participe dès 1858 au Salon; en 1868, sa toile Le Sauvetage à l'entrée du Tréport est remarquée pour ses qualités. La même année, il participe à l'exposition maritime internationale du Havre et reçoit une médaille de bronze. En 1870 et 1871, durant la guerre franco-allemande, il part en exil à Londres puis à Bruxelles. Il revient vivre à Paris et en 1878 il devient citoyen français. En janvier 1886, il est nommé officiellement peintre de la Marine et expose chez Goupil plus de quarante tableaux en octobre. En 1889, il illustre de 53 compositions Le Pôle sud, un album de Wilfried de Fonvielle (Hachette). En 1891-1892, il expose à Munich. Après sa mort début mars 1907 au 71 boulevard de Clichy, son atelier est dispersé aux enchères en mai à Paris, soit 208 toiles, des aquarelles et des dessins
N.B.: Cette lithogravure des environs de 1860 a fait l'objet, de notre part, d'un traitement particulier afin de faire disparaître les outrages du temps et, en particulier, les nombreuses rousseurs qui la maculaient. Après ce traitement, nous l'avons contrecollée sur un papier filigrané. Ce traitement a eu pour effet de la "rajeunir" ; elle est cependant une authentique lithogravure de la seconde moitié du 19e siècle.
