Each ring is a hinged segment as pictured and can be used for many body areas including nose, ear, lip, etc.
Here is a reference table for gauge:
20G - 0.8 mm (thin ring, more common)
18G - 1.0 mm
16G - 1.2 mm
14G - 1.6 mm
12G - 2.0 mm (thick ring, less common)
Please note that higher gauges like 20G and 18G mean a thinner ring, which are more common. Lower gauges like 14G and 12G mean a thicker ring, which are less common.
