For your consideration a pair of Japanese watercolours done on braided rice paper in second half of 19th century.

Part of an estate from Stratford Ontario, these are in their original frames from 1894 but removed and placed between 2 glass sheets for protection. The original matting and frame was water damaged.

These very delicate panels have not been refinished and show some minor loss/damage (see photos.) Detail is delicate and beautiful, and images are still sharp and clear.  Highlights in gold paint add remarkable depth.

The frames have been recently painted (2018) but can be restored to original wood. One sheet of glass is from the original framing done in 1894 by Stratford  Ontario company.

Painting size:  5 5/8” wide by 9” long.
Frame size:  12 1/2” wide by 16” long.

I am the only person who has touched these since they came into my possession in 2016 at auction. Please contact me for more details.
