SET FHB5 Stokesay Castle Gatehouse, Shropshire.

Designed to complement our Micromodel card cut-out kits, the new 'FHB' sets of Micro New Models have been produced by reducing the size of the completely original artwork used for our Famous Historical Buildings series. The finished models will be in keeping with the Micromodel range of buildings.

The Micromodel Company was originally started by Geoffrey Heighway in the 1940s and helped revolutionise the market for printed card cut-out kits. The demand for micromodels was boosted by the austerity years during WW11 (1939-1945), as many people with time on their hands were able to take up a hobby at little cost. ‘Micromodels’ was purchased by Broadway Approvals in the 1960s and sold to micromodel distributors in the 1970s. The micromodels archives, which included the majority of original art work, printing plates and all of the ongoing and unfinished prototypes for many new kits, was purchased by DG Models (Autocraft) in 1985. In the late 1980s DGM printed off from the original plates short runs of a few kits, some completely untouched and some altered - these re-runs have begun to be confused with early kits. It was never the intention that these 1980s runs should be taken for originals as they were at the time advertised as exactly what they were and sold very cheaply @ £1.50 each. DGM are offering a new generation of model makers the opportunity to acquire and make up these little gems without the prohibitive cost of the original article. To avoid future confusion the heading will be 'micro new models' and will include the prototypes and unfinished kits from the 1950s. These are a genuine part of the Micromodels history and could well become future collectables.
