Over time, the Gamecube Disc Drives Capacitors and Disc Lens fail due to age after 20 years. All electronics have a life cycle. Additionally, if the Gamecube has been well played, the Game Disc Lens will also fail. 

I've fixed many Gamecube Disc Drives and found that the lens WILL need replacing if it starts to "Click" when reading and loading games. Games also take longer to load on a failing Gamecube Lens (The "Clicking" lens takes an additional 2-5 seconds to load compared to a perfectly working Optical lens).

If your lens doesn't work after installing it, please be aware that you also NEED to replace the capacitors in your Disc drive. After you replace them and slightly adjust your potentiometer to the 250-300 range, your lens will work perfectly.
