AGRICULTURE: Canadian Grain Harvesting - Horse-Drawn Deering Cutter - 1913:  Harvesting grain is done by cutting off the seed heads from the rest of the plant. That can be done using pruners, a scythe, or a sickle if you are harvesting in a small space. For large-scale harvesting, it is done using machines like a combine harvester.  This Card features an early Derring Harvester.  Deering Harvester Company was founded in 1874 by William Deering. In 1902, Deering Harvester Company and McCormick Harvesting Machine Company, along with three smaller agricultural equipment firms (Milwaukee, Plano, and Warder, Bushnell & Glessner — manufacturers of Champion brand) merged to create the International Harvester Company which is still in operation today as the Case IH operations of CNH Global.  Later William's sons, Charles Deering and James Deering, took ownership of the company.  This Divided Back Era postcard, mailed in 1913, is in good condition, but there is edge and corner wear.  Valentine & Sons Publishing.  Montreal & Toronto.  Great Britain.
