ANTIQUE S.C.I. LAVENO CERAMICA 17” DIAMETER PLATE HAND PAINTED BY REGGIORI MARCO

Round collectible plate to hang on the wall in Art Nouveau ceramic made by the Laveno SCI manufacture "Società Ceramica Italiana" Italy early 1900s. This plate is hand painted and then fired also with gold decoration for the edge (Cotto al third fire). The decoration on the plate is of a group of apples sitting amidst some flowers and leaves. There is a dark and light brown background, so I guess they’re sitting on the ground. Considering that this plate is probably over 100 years old it is in extremely good condition. There are some spots on it where the paint has either worn off or been knocked off. On the left side on the rim there’s a white spot where the paint has flaked off, which I have shown . At the bottom, it looks like someone may be lightly scratched it with something so that there are some white marks down there as well and there are a few more a little small white marks around it. The gold trim is in pretty good condition but at the bottom it’s worn to a noticeable degree if you’re looking close up .The decoration is done by hand as is the manufacture of the plate, and it is signed on the left bottom by Reggiori Marco, who was one of the company’s most prolific and sought after illustrators from 1903 up until the mid-20th century. He and his brother Luigi, were two of the main decorators of the Laveno manufacturer at the beginning of the twentieth century.

The plate actually measures about 16 3/4 inches in diameter but in the title I put 17 inches so that I could have more room. The plate is signed on the white back with the Verbano Stone Laveno SCI mark for Italian Ceramic Society. It also features the SCI mark engraved in the paste with decoration numbers. These types of artistic artifacts are rare due to the complexity of the decoration which is very similar to a painting.
