* Please keep your tree in semi shade for the first 2-3 weeks and slowly bring it out into full sunlight to sun harden your tree.

* When your tree arrives you can purchase some seaweed solution and some slow release fertiliser such as osmocote and use according to the specific directions. This will help feed the plant over the next 30 Days while it is still in the poly bag.

*PLEASE DO NOT OVER FERTILISE YOUR TREE AS THIS WILL BURN THE ROOTS AND YOU RUN THE RISK OF THE TREE DYING.FOLLOW DIRECTIONS ON YOUR FERTILSER CAREFULLY.

*We do advise to keep your tree in the bag for a little longer than 30 Days but after the 30 Days period when the tree is sun hardened and is used to it's new environment it can be planted directly into the ground or another pot

DESCRIPTION

The coffee tree is a shrub with a straight trunk, which can survive for about 50 to 70 years. The first flowers appear during the third year, but production is only profitable from the fifth year onwards. 18th century botanists classified Coffee as a member of the Rubiaceous family. Of around sixty different species of coffee tree, two alone dominate world trade - the Coffea arabica, or, more simply, Arabica, which represents 75% of production; and the Coffea canephora, which is commonly known by the name of the most widespread variety: Robusta.

Coffee beans come from the coffee tree (actually it is a tropical evergreen shrub). The leaves look similar to the leaves of a laurel bush and the blossoms have a Jasmine like aroma. The average coffee tree produces an annual yield of 1 to 1 1/2 pounds of roasted coffee. It takes about 4,000 hand-picked green coffee beans to make a pound of coffee.

Coffee can be grown in most climates but prefer warm temperatures throughout the year but can tolerate very cold nights in winter as well..
Most websites say they need to be grown at high altitudes but we have our own trees we have made coffee from and we live on the coast so they will fruit in low lying areas as well .

Making your own coffee at home can be very rewarding and can also save a few dollars in your budget every year.
It is a great way to connect with nature and to appreciate where the things we take for granted come from and best of all you get to drink your own homemade chemical free coffee.
