What a wonderful, authentic, vintage pair! The fictional character of Raggedy Ann was created by illustrator Johnny Gruelle in 1915 with Andy following in 1917 as children’s books. He then licensed the creation of the dolls to P F Volland who subsequently licensed their production the the Georgene Novelty Company. Various companies made the dolls over the years. Georgene Novelties held the license from 1938 to 1963.

The Georgene dolls have a label sewn into their left sides, as do the dolls on offer here. Andy’s tag is legible and reads copyright 1947. Ann’s tag is too faded to make out but I believe these were made at the same time.

Their metal eyes are the same as are the white enamel covered snaps on their clothes. Andy’s outfit is missing part of one snap. They both have unlined noses another feature of this time period.

Made soon after WWII, what is most charming about this pair is their coordinating clothes. Andy wears his trademark jumper with a purple, teal and pink plaid top. Ann’s calico floral print dress has complimentary teal and pink flowers.

Please see my detailed photos for condition. This charming pair have honest vintage wear and could be easily restored if desired.
