From July 1, 2016, for the first time in the modern history of Belarus, metal coins are issued for cash circulation.
On the obverse of Belarusian coins there is an image of the State Emblem of the Republic of Belarus - one of the symbols of our state.
The reverse of Belarusian coins reveals the theme of one of the most popular areas of folk art - weaving. Through ornamental symbols, folk craftsmen expressed their ideas about nature and the surrounding world, family and society, their poetic perception of reality, dreams of well-being and happiness. Moreover, each ornament had its own purpose and name.
On the reverse sides of coins in denominations of 1, 2 and 5 kopecks there is an ornament symbolizing wealth and prosperity.
On the reverse sides of coins in denominations of 10, 20, and 50 kopecks, the ornamental motif of the “Tree of Life” is used. It can be perceived as a motif of the holy tree itself, as a symbol of eternal life. Also, “Dreva Zhytstya” is a symbol of “Mother in Childbirth”, a symbol of fertility, the embodiment of hope for the continuation of life, a symbol of a good large family.
On the reverse sides of coins in denominations of 1 and 2 rubles, the ornamental motif “Song Pattern” is presented. This lyrical ornament contains the deepest feelings and thoughts, the desire for happiness, freedom, harmony and beauty.
