Trypillia culture, Cucuteni culture (Romanian Cucuteni, or cultural community "Cucuteni-Trypillia") - an archaeological culture of the Eneolithic, whose name comes from the name of the village of Trypillia in Kyiv region, in the "extended" name of the culture there is also the Romanian name Ku. Trypillia culture flourished between 5500 and 2750 BC. BC, was located between the Carpathians and the Dnieper in the territories of modern Ukraine, Moldova and Romania with a total area of over 350 thousand km2. During the heyday of culture, it owned the largest settlements in Europe: the number of inhabitants of some of them exceeded 15 thousand people. Trypillia culture is one of the main ancient agricultural cultures of the Stone-Copper Age. The Trypillia tribes occupied the territories of Eastern Europe from the Dnieper to the Carpathians, from Polissya to the Black Sea and the Balkan Peninsula. This culture developed in the V-IV millennium BC. BC (for 2000 years) and has undergone three stages in its development - early, middle and late. More than two thousand monuments of Trypillia culture have been discovered in Ukraine (as of 2014). They are grouped in 15 oblasts: the largest in the Middle Transnistria and the Nadprut and Nadbuzhye, and the smallest in the Dnieper. Probably by the density of settlement of tribal associations. One of the features of Trypillia culture was a huge area of distribution (about 190 thousand km²). During its greatest prosperity (at the end of the middle stage), the population in the entire territory of the Trypillia culture, according to various estimates, ranged from 400 thousand to 2 million people. The problem of the origin of the Trypillians is not fully understood. Most archaeologists are inclined to believe that the basis of the early Trypillia culture was the southern agricultural and pastoral tribes of cultures of Balkan origin, which, however, in the process of spreading to the new eastern territories absorbed at different stages elements of local Neolithic and Eneolithic cultures. In the second half of the VI millennium and in the first half of the V millennium BC. Tribes of the Trypillia culture settled in the basin of the Dniester and the Southern Bug, where researchers discovered many early Trypillia settlements. During this period, they were located mostly in low places near rivers, but also found settlements located on elevated plateaus. Dwellings were built in the form of deepened dugouts or semi-dugouts, and also mainly ground, the floor and the hearth or furnaces with embers were strengthened with clay; the walls were built of wood or raft coated with clay. At the early stage of development of the Trypillia culture, ground-shaped rectangular buildings appeared on pillars with clay-coated wooden wicker walls with thatched or reed roofs. In settlements located on elevated plateaus, the layout of the dwellings approached the shape of a circle or oval. The basis of the economy during this period was farming and livestock. Hunting, fishing and gathering were also important. They sowed wheat (single-grain, two-grain, spelled), barley, millet, rye, peas. The land was cultivated with hoes made of deer antler, stone or bone and digging sticks with pointed points. The crop was harvested with the help of sickles with flint inserts. The grain was ground with stone graters. Women sculpted dishes, made yarn, clothes. The men hunted, raised cattle, fished, and made tools out of flint, bone, and stone. In animal husbandry, the first place belonged to cattle, the second were pigs, sheep, goats. Famous domestic horse. Hunting for deer, wild boar and roe deer was of great importance for replenishing meat food during this day. Pottery has achieved significant development. Earthenware of various shapes was sculpted by hand: large pear-shaped vessels for grain, pots of various shapes, bowls, spoons, colanders, binoculars. Female figurines, models of houses, necklaces, amulets were sculpted from clay. The surface of the vessel was covered with a recessed ornament or flutes in the form of ribbons of several parallel lines, forming spiral shapes of the ornament. Most of the statuettes were also covered with this ornament. Statuettes, models of dwellings and amulets had a ritual purpose and were associated with agricultural cults. Among the studied Early Trypillia settlements, although very rarely, various copper products were found, mostly jewelry: bracelets, rings, hooks, etc. . is.
According to the Finnish scientist Asko Parpola, an Indologist from the University of Helsinki, there are linguistic reasons to believe that the wheel was invented in the Trypillia culture on the territory of modern Ukraine. A version of the European origin of the wheel was put forward in the 1990s by the German scientist A. Heusler. About the findings of wheel models in the excavations of Trypillia settlements of the last quarter of 5,000 BC. BC (millennia before the relevant finds in Mesopotamia
