Antique Hallmarked Sterling Silver & Cork Wine Bottle Stopper
Birmingham 1914

Details
Height : 5cm (2in)
Weight : 15gm (1/2oz)

This antique wine bottle stopper is in very good condition. It consists
of a cork stopper with a hallmarked sterling silver dome topped mount.
The silver top is hallmarked in two places (see pics) for Birmingham
1914, the year World War 1 began. The makers' initials, 'J.D&Co.Ld.,'
indicate it was produced by Johnson Durban & Co.Ld. The cork base
is intact though pockmarked with pin size holes. A previous owner
has written the date 1914 on the bottom of the cork. I have tested it
on a standard wine bottle and it does fit.
