Vintage 1946 Mrs. Harry Owen Fan Letter-Helicopter Air Mail  (Envelope Only). Envelope Measures: 6.5" Wide x 3 5/8" Tall. Letter is addressed to "Mrs. Harry Owen". The location in Hollywood is a lovely vintage Hollywood Home. There is no letter enclosed so we do not know the subject of the letter but "Harry Owen" was a well known band leader and friend of Bing Crosby's. This envelope is from an estate in which we are listing a number of fan letters from noted Hollywood figures, such as: Mae West, Gary Cooper, Charles Rogers, Dorothy Lamour, Clara Bow & Richard Dix, to name a few.

Note the wonderful vintage graphics of a helicopter delivering air mail, in this case from "North Hollywood, Calif. July 8 3-PM 1946" and arriving one hour later to "Los Angeles, Calif. July 8, 1946 4:00 PM" . See canceled 8 cent "United States Air Mail Stamp".

One of Harry Owen's songs "Sweet Leilani" (named after the Owen's daughter) won Best Song category at the 1938 10th Academy Awards, and became Crosby's first gold record. Owen's band was known as "Royal Hawaiian Hotel Orchestra".
