ORIGINAL POCHOIR — 1926 Umberto Brunelleschi SIGNED — Venice Masquerade Gondolas

What is a POCHOIR? — Hand painted, usually using a stencil, with gouache, a kind of opaque watercolor paint. Part of the image may be printed (as I believe the black lines are here) and then stencils are placed over it and the color is applied by hand. In this way, you have an original work of art that was easier to produce, and make more than one of, than a typical gouache painting.

Colors are all bright and vibrant. There is some minor foxing. There was a mat mounted to the piece that was not acid free and left the residue you see in the photos, as well as a slight shadow that, in my opinion, does not detract from the beauty of the piece.

What a FIND!
