Ironwood Carving
Large Quail
This is an ironwood carving from the Sonoran desert of Mexico. It is carved out of the wood of the Olneya Tesota tree or Desert Ironwood. Ironwood is a very dense desert wood, it sinks. It is difficult to carve but has an exceptional finish when skillfully worked. In recent years the supply of raw ironwood has diminished and the tree is currently protected by the Mexican government.

This is a large quail.  Measures approx. 13" long, 4" wide, 5" tall. Weighs a very substantial 3 pounds, 14 ounces of ironwood. It is carved out of a single block of ironwood. Highly collectible.
