It is the catalog of an exhibit of the same name presented by the Broward County Library and Emile Viard / Vie & Art Collection from November 2, 2002 to November 30, 2002 in Gallery six on the sixth floor of the Broward County Main Library.

 

The exhibit featured paintings by Fritzvelt Rourouss Antoine, Erns Turgo Bastien, Bermy Dorvil, Lucien Leconte, Vidho Lorville, Garry Mabour, Arlene Magloire and Guy C. Syllien.

 

Born in Miragoâne, Fritzvelt Rourouss Antoine is a self-taught artist who paints, draws, creates collages and graphics, and restores art.

 

A native of Port-au-Prince, Haiti, Erns Turgo Bastien is a painter, sculptor and art teacher. His art is considered constructivism.

 

Bermy Dorvil was born in Dondon and is skilled in painting and art restoration. His art is a blend of naturalism, primitive and naïve art, which he studied in 1978 at the Philomé Obin School, Cap-Haïtien, Haiti.

 

Lucien Leconte was born in Port?au?Prince, Haiti. He is the founder and artistic director of La Galerie Lezard in Dakar. Described as an artist in the abstract expressionism and neo-expressionism styles.

 

Born in Carrefour, Haiti, Vidho Lorville paints, teaches art, and creates sculptures and multimedia collages. His style is described as neo-realism. He holds a bachelor of fine arts degree from the Ecole National des Arts (ENARTS), Haiti.

 

Garry Mabour studied at the Ecole National des Arts (ENARTS). His style is defined as both surrealism and abstract.

 

A self-taught artist born in New York; Arlene Magloire moved to Haiti in 1983. She returned to New York in 1991 and took art classes with John Goodman at Queens College. After she began painting professionally, she returned to Haiti and continued studying on her own.

 

Born in Gonaïves, Guy C. Syllien started drawing and painting at ten years old by imitating some of the Haitian masters. He studied at the College Canado Haïtien, Metropolitain d'Haiti Eftec in Haiti, and later moved to Miami and enrolled in Miami-Dade Community College. He continued his education as a student of visual arts at the New World School of the Arts and became a professional artist.

 

Each artist has one page dedicated to to their biography, artist’s statement, B&W copy of the artist and one of their featured artwork.
