Up for sale, a 1959 Guild T-100D "Slim Jim" thinline hollowbody in exceptional condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case. An early and rare T-100D and one of the first made at Guild's Hoboken, NJ factory, this hollowbody features a full 16" lower bout, arched maple top, and a pair of original Franz single coil pickups, which have much in common with a P-90 in terms of output and tonal characteristics. The tone is detailed and clear, with great midrange cut, top end snap, and focused bass accentuated by the inherent attack and clarity of the maple body. The instrument has a prominent acoustic bark, and the power and depth of the unplugged signal belies the slender depth of the body. The guitar is featherweight at 6lbs, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with 11-49 strings, easy-playing action action, and accurate intonation. The mahogany neck has a full-feeling C shaped profile with round shoulders, measuring .895” deep at the 1st fret and .970” at the 9th. The extremely dark Brazilian rosewood fretboard retains the original slender “banjo” fretwire, which has good meat given their size, with well-rounded crowns and only light wear on the crowns of frets 1-4. The guitar plays cleanly up the 24 3/4" scale, with a straight neck and responsive, optimally adjusted truss rod. The nut measures 1 5/8" in width. The open book headstock retains the original open gear nickel strip tuners which still turn smoothly and hold pitch as they should. The headstock face features the original truss rod cover, and ambered Guild and Chesterfield inlays. All of the electronics work as they should, with individual Volume and Tone knobs for each pickup that turn smoothly with original transparent skirted reflector cap knobs. Hardware includes the original carved and compensated Brazilian rosewood bridge and clean, nickel-plated Guild G harp tailpiece. Plastics are all extremely well-kept and comprise the original pickguard with chevron graphic, cream Franz pickup covers, and screwed-in switch surround complete with amber tip. Visible through the bass side F hole, the original paper "ghost" label is near mint, noting manufacture at Guild's Hoboken, NJ factory. The guitar retains its vibrant nitro lacquer two-tone Sunburst finish, and the top has been freshly rebound with new multi-ply binding that perfectly matches the ply count and appearance of the original binding. The neck binding remains original, save for a small piece adjacent to the bass side of the nut. Cosmetic wear is limited to some small finish chips on the body perimeter, one scratch central to the back, and just a few additional minor marks on the body as a whole. There is some light speckling of the finish on the back of the neck, and an area of wear through the gloss central to the carve behind frets 9-10, none of which is distracting to the palm while fretting. The original hardshell case is included with a brown textured exterior, functional latches, and the original metal handle frame (most of the leather is no longer present on the handle). The case is structurally sound and rare in its own right.
