The listing here gets you a full rebuild of all shaft seals on all 11-12 cylinders (early model years had 12, later ones 11), polishing of the chrome shafts, honing the inside of the cylinder body, and return shipping back to your address. The cars covered include all models SL280, SL300, SL320, SL500, SL600, SL60, SL73 years 1989-2002. You send in your cylinders to me, I rebuild them, and send them back to you on my dime. My usual turn around is 1-2 days. Should there be any issues with the rebuild, such as bend rods or pistons, I'll contact you before proceeding further. I am an avid auto addict with a small shop in the Dallas, TX, area, specializing in German cars of BMW, Audi, Mercedes, and Porsche makes and models. I own an extensive personal collection of vehicles that I have maintained myself over the years, picking up knowledge from my dad and grandpa, who were both German car techs and nerds. Recently, I added the ability for other fellow enthusiasts around the United States to utilize my expertise to bring their cars to true German OEM quality.

The R129 is one of my favorite timeless German classics (I own 2), but as everything in this world, it's not perfect. The hydraulic tops in these cars, while way ahead of their time in terms of hydraulic and mechanical engineering, did not utilize superior materials in their construction, simply because modern materials didn't exist 20 years ago. The seal material used in the cylinders decays with time, regardless of mileage or use. I saw cars with 200k miles and 26k miles have the same problem: a leaking hydraulic top. Hence why I decided to take matters into my own hands. I designed my own dual lip seals and commissioned a German seal manufacturer to make then out of modern Viton rubber, being extra corrosion resistant while simultaneously remaining flexible to avoid pinching and deteriorating inside the cylinders.
