Theatre Arts Monthly was a monthly American publication that ran from 1916 to 1964. Broad in scope and handsomely designed, the publication contained in-depth coverage of every aspect of the theatre-world, and these vintage magazines offer today’s readers a permanent record of American dramatic art in its formative period, introducing dramatic trends and events, and to the emergence of new and important dramatists, directors, playwrights and stage designers of the time. There are also articles on the emerging movie scene and drama in Europe, South America and Russia. Not to mention the wonderful advertisements!

In this issue:
  • The Great World Theatre - Maya by Simon Gantillon banned by Wales Padlock Law
  • Intermission - Broadway in Review by John Mason Brown
  • What The Theatre Means to a Frenchman by Philip Carr
  • The Reinhardt in his Den by Gilbert Gabriel
  • The Theatre in Newer Italy by Maria Theresa Scalero
  • Peasant Plays in the Tyrol by Sheldon Cheney
  • Near The Café de la Paix - The Museum of the Paris Opera by Dorothy Hirshfield
  • The Dance in Europe by Maria Theresa
  • The Audience on the Road - A Calendar for the Summer’s Theatre Abroad

Pictures include:
  • Vladimir Sokolov [Sokoloff]
  • The Greek Theatre at Syracuse, Sicily
  • The Maddermarket Theatre

Condition: The covers are very fragile and show damage to the edges and spine AND ARE COMPLETELY SEPARATED, the staples have rusted making the pages loose. However, given that this magazine is around 90 years old, its condition isn’t too bad and all pages are fully legible!

I accept returns and any questions - just ask!
