  • CONDITION: Old Map Store Stock: Unsold & Unused. Bio-predation & Oxidation (aging, age discoloration mainly on the outside panels).
  • STOCK Pictures are of one of the items in the original quantity stack. All the same issue or version.
  • Dick Smith Wilderness is in the Las Padres National Forest. It covers areas in eastern Santa Barbara County & western Ventura County.
  • The Map proper is dated 1990. The Guide Information is not dated.
  • There are several trails listed on this map, these have changed.
  • Most of the area was burned in the 2007 Zaca Fire. That is on the top 25 overall California Wildfire List and part of the 2007 Firestorm List. This fire started on July 4, 2007 and wasn't contained until October 2007. This fire destroyed the trails and campsites. Some have been rebuilt since and others are in need of maintenance. This map in this listing is a historical reference.
  • The area has been known to have been inhabited for over 10,000 years.
  • Map Publisher: Map Publisher: USDA (Department of Agriculture), US Forest Service (USFS) in cooperation with the United States of America Department of Interior, US Geological Survey (USGS).
  • Richard J. “Dick” Smith was born in 1920 and died in 1977. Dick Smith was an environmental journalist,artist, & World War II Navy Veteran. He spent of lots of times in this area and was instrumental in getting the larger wilderness & forest area preserved. He was a sculptor, carver, photographer, writer, & illustrator. He helped with many environmental issues from the California Condor, to Oil Spills, to Land Preservation.
  • The U.S. Congress created the wilderness in 1984 as part of the California Wilderness Act.
