Very nice early WW1 French Croix De Guerre in the original blue box it was awarded in... recently acquired this from another collector who stated it came out of the woodwork from a family a few years back and that it had been awarded too and worn by a US WW1 Army Veteran.. sadly not named so I cannot approve or disprove this...

As you may know these were award in a number off different variants with different dates this example is 1914-1916. I always found the 1914-1916 examples to be harder to find and thus they are valued at a premium! This example also exhibit 1x bronze star on the ribbon this denotes an award for bravery for a solider who was mentioned in dispatches at the regiment or brigade level.. the original blue boxes are very hard to find with the medals you just don't see them that much anymore... really a great example of a scarce WW1 medal award to French/ British & American Troops...possibly a rare US issued example..

The condition of the medal is very good though it does have a decent bit of discoloration and fading on the ribbon, clearly the veteran removed this from the box for wear or display on his uniform. The medal also has some wear and scratches showing heavy use and wear... I'm guessing this was the veterans prized possession and he wore it with honor... the blue case is whole and in decent shape but some of the corners are torn through as is common with older boxes... really an excellent piece... the medal is made of solid bronze , an heirloom and piece of history to pass down in your family for generations..
