Note : There is no precise number of studies of the Cliffs at Étretat made by Claude Monet, as he painted many paintings and studies throughout his career. Monet was obsessed with capturing the changing light and atmosphere of these dramatic cliffs, and he made many sketches and plein air studies to capture the effect of light on the landscape.
Some sources estimate that he could have carried out up to thirty studies on the cliffs of Étretat, while other sources mention an even higher number. Monet enjoyed experimenting and exploring different compositions and light effects, which led him to paint these landscapes time and time again.
