Description:
Oil on canvas. Signed C. Wentorf. The oil dates back to the late 19th century ( 1880-1900). Large impressive portrait of a Danish girl in Traditional folk costume. Framed in its authentic salon frame. A fine oil by Danish painter, Carl Wentorf ( 1863 – 1914). A certificate of authenticity will be included with this work.

 
Condition:
Ready to hang. In excellent condition. No holes, tears or missing paint. The original salon frame has minor scratches due to the age.



Carl Wentorf ( 1863 – 1914)
Born in Copenhagen in 1863. Educated at the Royal Art Academy in 1881. Worked and traveled in Paris from 1890-1896, and traveled in Germany, Italy, Belgium and in Holland up until 1906.He participated at the World Fair in Paris in 1889 as well as the World fair in Chicago in 1893. Wentorf were among the few Scandinavian symbolists like Edward Munch who were highly successful in the international market and frequently exhibited at the important European shows like: Nord. Kunst-Ausst in Lübeck 1895. Glaspalast, Munich in 1901, 1909 and 1913. As well as the Grosse Berliner Kunstausstellung in 1907 and 1910. Wentorf worked primarily with figures, landscapes and still-life’s. He often mixed the traditional 19th century golden age style with the upcoming influence of social realism and symbolism. He won the Gold medallion in Munich 1901 and received the prestigious Royal Academy award in 1890,1892 and 1900. A number of his works are represented at the following museums: The Radsted Hospital 1891. The Museum of Storstrom. Landscape from the island of Lolland. 1890. The Hirschsprung collection.
