Title: Chinese Porcelain 'Bajixiang' Moon Flask. Late Qing Dynasty. Circa 19/20th Century.
Description:x We are pleased to offer this exquisite late 19th to early 20th century Chinese Porcelain Moon Flask, beautifully decorated in rich underglaze cobalt blue on a white ground. Imperial Chinese porcelain of this type were used by Chinese literati and scholar officials, produced of the finest quality, reflecting the Imperial taste and marked with the name of the emperor and dynasty at the base.
The flask is decorated in a lavish design on each side with panels of the eight auspicious Buddhist treasures, symbolizing the guardian spirits of the house, intended as a preservative against evil and witchcraft. The flask is bordered on both sides in a formal key pattern, and accented at the outer rim by fields of foliated scrolls, all in underglaze tones of cobalt blue. The recessed base is marked with the Qianlong six-character reign mark in underglazed blue.
A massive flask elegantly created in traditional Chinese taste, with thickly-potted walls, beautifully contoured with a flat-sided body, having two looped handles at each side of a short neck, with a slightly flared foot. The intricately painted decorations are heavily-glazed with rich cobalt blue tones.
Data Observation: Excellent condition, with no chips, cracks, or repairs.
