Description:
This is a truely exquisite Japanese vase crafted by a reputable pottery artist ASAHI Hosai (the 14th.). His family built their first kiln in Kyoto in early 17th century (400+ years ago) to mainly produce tea utensils requested by KOBORI Enshu (known as one of the most respected tea masters in its history).

The vase could be used either as a "normal" as well as a "hanging" vase. It has a metal hook at the back. And it should be an ideal vase for those who seriously practice tea ceremony and/or Ikebana

The glaze used for this vase was developed by Hosai called "Baikahi-Haze-Glaze", which enabled very unique and mesmerizing expression on the surface of the vase. He drew "Baikahi-Haze-Glaze" in Japanese cursive script at the right side on the lid of the wooden box (photo #11).

The vase is in excellent condition. No flaw at all. The box is original and signed by the artist himself (at the left side on the lid), which is wrapped with silk Furoshiki (Japanese traditional wrapping cloth).

The flower arrangements (photo #2 & 12) are just examples. You can do much better.  :-)  :-)

About the artist:
The artist is ASAHI Hosai the 14th. (1921 ~ 2004). Asahi is his pseudonym as well as the name of the kiln. His real family name is Matsubayashi. He has been known as a topnotch potter in Kyoto producing excellent tea utensils.
He put his seal behind the hanging medal (photo #7 )and sighed on the lid of the box (photo #11).
