Up for sale, a 1965 Gibson ES-125DC in excellent condition and in perfect working order, complete with a Gibson hardshell case. A particularly rare vintage Gibson archtop, the ES-125DC is the two pickup cutaway iteration of the ES-125 platform as the DC (Double Pickup, Cutaway) suffix would suggest. What sets this model apart is its full depth body, measuring 3 3/8", much rarer than Gibson's thinline archtops of the era, and essentially making this guitar akin to a mid-1950s ES-175 with more reserved inlay and hardware.

Tonewoods include all-maple body construction with a one-piece Honduran mahogany neck and Brazilian rosewood fretboard, yielding a deep, rich natural acoustic tone. The bridge position P-90 is authoritative, with a midrange bite and a punchy, articulate quality. The neck pickup is smooth and woody with bouncy, sweet trebles, and all pickup positions have plenty of body and percussive clarity. The guitar weighs 6lbs 4oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with flatwound 12-54 strings, low action, and accurate intonation.

The one-piece mahogany neck has a full-feeling C-shaped profile carve with full shoulders and plenty of heft in the higher registers, measuring .865" deep at the 1st fret and .955" at the 9th. The original medium jumbo fretwire has been leveled and crowned in the guitar’s lifetime, currently showing no wear with good meat remaining. The guitar plays cleanly up the 24 3/4" scale with a straight neck and responsive, optimally adjusted truss rod. The nut has Gibson's more slender width of 1 9/16", first seen in 1965. The headstock sports a set of era-correct Kluson Deluxe single line strip tuners with original white buttons. A different tuner set was substituted in the guitar's lifetime, with halos of larger washers on the headstock face and a few cleanly doweled mounting holes just inset from the current gears.

The electronics all function as intended, and the original P-90 pair meter at 8.25k ohms in the bridge position and 7.95k at the neck. All original plastics include the single-ply transparent tortoise pickguard, quartet of gold reflector cap knobs, and original P-90 covers. The chrome plating on the hardware is bright and clean, comprising the original ABR-1 bridge with nylon saddles and trapeze tailpiece.

The three-tone Sunburst gloss nitro lacquer finish is 100% original with no touch-up or overspray, exhibiting tight "shattered glass" lacquer checking on the top and back, framed by ambered body binding. Cosmetic wear is limited to just a few small dings and finish scuffs on the body as a whole, largely relegated to the rims. The gloss finish on the neck profile is nigh-flawless, with just a couple small finish chips on the headstock edges.

A modern Gibson brown tolex hardshell case with purple plush interior is included.
