BACKGROUND
-----------------------
The Makonde or “Wamakonde” tribe is an ethnic group situated in the southeast of Tanzania. Known for their excellent craftsmanship, wamakonde are mostly known for their Mapiko masks, Wildlife and Ujamaa (Tree of Life) carvings. This particular and very unique piece features a mother leopard with her two cubs. Similar to the Makonde tree of life, most carvings feature a form of unity and in this case a mother protecting her young ones.

Carved by hand using an expensive chunk of ebony wood, each piece exhibits the intricacy of design, detail and strength of a pack or community. The artistry is impeccable and quality undeniable.
