Hand Carved Wooden African Bowl - Tribal Mask lid. I bought this large handsome bowl with lid in 1994 at Mua Mission, Mtakataka, Malawi. It was was carved by one of the Master Carvers, out of Malumba wood, a beautifully grained and dark colored local wood. It is thirteen and one half inches across, and ten inches high, and weighs 11 pounds.  It is signed on the underside of the base 'Made by S. J. BANGBANGA, BOX 28, MTAKATAKA, MALAWI'. It is representative of one of the Guli Whamkulu masks that dancers wear during one of their celabrations ceramoneys..
