Today's same sizes run much larger in jeans from 40 years ago! PLEASE compare all of the measurements taken in the photos and compare them to your favorite fitting pair of jeans. All of the vital measurements are photographed to compare using a tape measure on your best fitting jeans. Don't be disappointed and waste your money paying postage to return jeans that don't fit. Please take the time to COMPARE MEASUREMENTS of these with one of your own pairs that you KNOW fits! Remember to account for some shrinkage since these are Brand New Unwashed and Undried Jeans. I can only accept returns if they are returned exactly as shipped with tags still attached. Levi's that were made in the USA definitely look and feel superior to the current International manufacturers. U.S. production of Levi's ended in 2002. Statistics show that during the 1960's, 95% of clothing bought in the United States was made here in America. By 1970, local production dropped to 75%, and in the 1980's, just 70%.bought in America was produced in the United States. Nafta trade agreements caused huge economic damage to the textile mills in the US. By 1990 the US was importing 50% of its clothing from cheaper international sources. The year 2000 lowered US production to 29%. Today, only 2% of clothing bought in the United States is made here stateside. This desire to save money on manufacturing by outsourcing it to other countries has caused the quality, craftsmanship and materials to suffer over the years. This is why there is such a resurgence in popularity of Vintage clothing. Levi's are no exception. The earliest Levi's you'll probably encounter have a red tab with the name LEVIS spelled with a capital or "Big E". A salesman came up with the idea of adding the red tab to differentiate the Levi's brand from the many competitors that began to surface everywhere. The change from a Big E to a small lowercase "e" was phased in between the years of 1969 and 1971. Sometimes the Levi's tab will have only the circled letter R printed on the tab. This doesn't mean they are fakes or inferior in any way. To enforce protection of their trademark, Levi's was asked by the trademark Office to use only this circled R on up to 10% of their products. From the 1950's until approximately 1969, Levi's tabs were printed on both sides The tab has appeared in many different colors. White tabs were first used to designate women's Levi's but were also applied to Levi's Corduroy Products during the 1970's. During the late 1960's, black tabs with gold lettering were used for their Sta Prest line. The famous orange tabs appeared in the late 1960's when Levi's created more fashionable Bell Bottoms, Flares, Boot Cuts, Bush Jeans, and all kinds of variations. It's uncommon but possible to find a "Big E" on an orange tab Levi's recently reissued their LVC orange tab line due to its popularity. The reissues are easy to spot and won't be easily confused with the true vintage.. A care tag with wash instructions was also added to the inside lining of Levi's products in 1971. Some of the pre 1971 Levi's have the wash instructions printed right onto the inside pocket. The model number is usually an 8 digit number in the middle of the tag. It will match the retail tags. So if you find a used pair or a new pair missing it's paper retail tags (as many of mine are), the care label will identify the style of the jeans in the first four numbers and the color code and fabric treatment in the last four numbers. These new care tags also use a number in the bottom right that helps identify which factory they were made in. The numbers on the bottom left usually designate the month and year they were actually manufactured ie: 10 7 stood for October 1977. Zippers can also help you date your Levi's. Scovill's Gripper Zipper dominated the 1950's through 1960. Talon 42 will be found on Levi's from the 1960's through 1970's. Levi's branded or YKK zippers are used since 1980 until now. The back of the waist closure button will have a single digit number stamped on the reverse if it was made during the mid 1970's or before. Common 3 digit numbers stamped on the reverse of newer jeans are the numbers 524, 558, 554, and 555. But be wary of the 555 since many reproductions use this number. Also while new Levi's are reverse stamped 501, many older style fakes use the 501 number too. Finally, if you find a single stitch inside the top of the back pocket instead of chain stitching you can be assured your Levi's are pre 1978.
