A Francois Legras shaft and globe (onion) shape amethyst to clear glass carafe enamelled with flowers leaves and gilded foliage decoration. The carafe is of 'shaft and globe' shape with long neck and 'Jack in the pulpit' rim, going from amethyst at the top to clear glass at the base, the body and the rim decorated with various flowers with gilded stems, the pouring lip at the rear. There is a polished pontil to the base with the enamelled number '4'. These carafes (not a vase) are now quite scarce.

Height.  11 3/8" (29cms) .

Body diameter.  4 1/2" (11.5cms)

Condition. Glass is excellent, no restoration, chips, cracks and no staining internally, some rubbing age related wear to the speckled gilding on the lip rim, 2 bubble inclusions in the body left from the manufacturing process (see last 3 pictures), enamelling in excellent order for age, other signs of wear commensurate with age and use.

Makers Mark.  Unsigned .  Number 4 to base (see penultimate picture).
