Roland MC-505 (16x02) LCD replacement screen adapter with 14-pin connector

This adapter allows you to replace the original Roland MC-505 screen at will.

You can use LCD screens (16x02) in any color combination and they will all work with this adapter.

The adapter does not support OLED screens as they have a different I/O configuration.

This adapter will only work with present day tech 16x02 LCD screens. It is not compatible and it will not work with the original Roland MC-505 screens.

This is an adapter for Roland MC-505 that will be mounted on the screen (16x02).

The adapter is sold without the LCD screen.

The adapter kit includes the adapter itself and the 14-pin straight ribbon. The adapter also has an attached trimpod to adjust the contrast.

This is the v 1.2 of the adapter and this will be the last version for it.

The updated version contains :

The LCD adapter v 1.2 has an extra resistor for the LED to shield against overloading.

The LCD adapter v 1.2 has a square 16-pin screen connector. The original 1.0 version was round and too flimsy. This one works with pins up to 1.1 mm (round or square), which are a lot easier to find and cheaper too.

The adapter has two connectors: one to be used with a straight connecting ribbon and the other which can be used with an inverse connected ribbon.

All the adapters will be delivered with only one ribbon, the straight ribbon, which is placed at the bottom side of the adapter - see photos.

The LCD screens in the photos are meant as an example to demonstrate how to solder the connector. The price is for the adapter without the LCD screen.

For the LCD screen please contact me before you purchase to check availability. I will reply to you as soon as possible with a quote.

How to :

The first step is to check that the screen (16x02) has a 16-pin female connector. If it does not then you will have to solder the connector yourself. See photos.

The recommended contact surface of the pins needs to be 5 mm length between LCD screen and the adapter. This is the height of the pin measured from the PCB - see photos.

The ideal contact surface for the screen’s 16-pin female connector has a diameter of 0.5 mm to max 1.0 mm per pin, round or square.

The next step is to attach the adapter to the screen through the 16-pin connector.

The adapter itself is plug and play as long as the screen has the 16-pin female.

The last step is to fit the screen into the frame. This can be done in various ways, depending on what tools you have available and the methods you prefer to employ. You might need to cut the frame or enlist the help of someone who has the necessary skills and tools.

There are a number of youtube videos that describe the process in detail.
