This is an absolutely stunning blue & white plate made in mid 18C in Imari, Japan. Its diameter is 21.2 cm or 8.3 inches.
The pattern or design of this plate is called "Fuyo - De". It originally came from China in 17C and customized into Japanese taste over time. Its literal translation is "Cotton Rose Hibiscus - Style", meaning the face is divided in to sections as it looks like Cotton Rose.
Many items or symbols are drawn which are believed to beckon lucky fortune and protecting people from disaster and difficulty (photo #5 - 8). And a hawk is drawn in the center, which looks very lovely (photo #4).
The condition of
the plate is excellent. No cracks or chips at all.
Photo #9 & 10: The 4 tiny spots in the center of the back are not flaws, they are rather evidence that this plate was made in mid 18C in Imari. The mark which looks like a warrior helmet or an insect is another evidence.
Photo #11: It is stored in a high-quality paulownia wooden box, which is believed best to keep precious antiques for long time.
Photo #1: The plate stand shown in the photo #1 is a part of this offering.
