PRICE REDUCED 9/24/2023> MILLER BROTHERS Army Knife, survivor: This knife is half the knife it used to be. The badge says "Army Knife", which implies two more blades including a can opener for field rations, a screwdriver for weapons' maintenance, and a leather punch for...well...punching leather. As you can see, the knife seems to have been converted to a two-blade, double ended jacknife. A good job was done in the conversion. Authentic steel rivets were used to re-assemble and are peened neatly, and the frame pieces all fit square and even. The lanyard bail has been removed. The blades nest as they should without binding or clashing.
Ah, the blades...what can be said for them is that they are authentic and have survived. The main is not heavily pitted but deeply. The spear tip has been broken off and re-ground to a false "clip" shape, probably the only option available to the rebuilder. The pen-blade (yes, some military utility knives were supplied with a pen blade rather than a leather punch) is heavily pitted but not deeply. This disparity to me is a conundrum; both blades should logically be damaged the same way. The handles appear to be wood and present a nice old patina. The spring is not pitted (whaaattt??) and provides adequate walk and talk. All brass and bolsters are clean and presentable.
Value in this knife is in its heritage (Miller is an old, rare and sought after brand); its original pattern as an "army knife" (most Miller pieces are gentlemanly rather than utility knives), and in my opinion the conversion is a point of interest, given the professionalism of the modifications. Mailing only to USA-48.
