Up for sale, a 1981 Peavey T-40 bass in exceptional, 100% original condition and in perfect working order. This USA-made bass was one of Peavey’s original designs, featuring a pair of coil splittable humbuckers and a bevy of tonal sculpting options.

Tonewoods include an ash body and a maple neck, and at 11lbs 3oz this T-40 has tons of natural sustain and sonic authority. Bold and powerful, these humbuckers are punchy and dynamic, with broad lows, ample midrange warmth, and sweet treble articulation. The global coil tap switch enables Jazz Bass-esque single coil growl and burp. This T-40 has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 45-100 roundwound strings, easy-playing action, and spot-on intonation.

The maple neck has a slender C-shaped profile carve with well-rounded shoulders and lightly rolled fretboard edges, measuring .790” deep at the 1st fret and .870” at the 12th. The medium jumbo fretwire has good meat, benefitting from a light level/crown, and the bass plays cleanly up the 34” scale with a straight neck and a responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod. The aluminum nut measures 1 11/16” in width, and the original Schaller tuning machines function reliably.

All of the electronics work as intended, with the pickups governed by a three-way pickup selector switch, independent pairs of Volume and Tone controls, and two-way coil split switch. The original quartet of “P”-topped knobs and chrome-plated hardware is all notably clean, including the pickup covers, large block saddles, and heavy-duty bridge. The three-ply black pickguard rounds out the plastics.

The satin Natural Ash finish exhibits just a handful of minor dings along the lower bout perimeter and on the back at the lower bout. The neck profile retains its smooth gloss, and there is a professionally repaired split central to the fingerboard from frets 16-20.

A gigbag is included.
