Andy Warhol Rare Original 1978 Print Muhammad Ali Poster

This original exhibition poster produced in 1978 comes directly from the estate of Andy Warhol. In 1977, Warhol was commissioned by collector Richard Weisman to create a series of portraits of ten of the sports greats of the 1970s. Warhol first photographed and painted Ali as part of this “Athletes” series. Known also for his activism and humanitarianism, this portrait series of Ali focuses on the athletic achievements of the icon. In this image, the legendary boxer's gaze is fixed on the viewer and he seems moments away from throwing his first punch. Warhol captures the building energy and excitement of the coming fight with swirls of color around Ali. This is a unique opportunity to purchase a rare, out-of-print poster from Warhol’s personal collection.

Proceeds directly benefit the non-profit charitable organization he founded with the mission to advance the visual arts. Since its inception in 1987, The Andy Warhol Foundation has been a stalwart advocate for freedom of expression, supporting work that is experimental and challenging in nature and from communities that have been historically marginalized.
